The 4th Annual Mitsubishi Lecture was delivered by Professor Tim Sulivan on Thursday 24 May 2007 to an audience that included visitors, staff and students from the School.

Prof. Sullivan is a Principal of Pells Sullivan Meynick, an enginering consultancy. He is well known and respected in international circles as an expert in the stability of open cut mines, highwalls, stockpiles and dumps. Amongst his many roles he was the Advisor to the Coroner on the Thredbo Landslide.

Professor Sullivan's lecture focused on the safety and productivity implications associated with the design and stability of highwalls, tailing dams, stockpiles and dumps.

The lecture was supported by a number of case studies sourced from across the global mining engineering sectors involving both successful and less successful design.
