2005 UNSW / Mitsubishi Lecture
Opportunities and Challenges for Mine Planning and Operations
by Ian Tredinnick

The lecture touched on different aspects of environmental planning and management

The second UNSW/Mitsubishi Lecture was delivered by Mr Ian Tredinnick in front of an audience of nearly 100 persons.

Ian is the Environment and External Affairs Manager for BHP Billiton's Mt Arthur Coal operation in the Upper Hunter Valley. By drawing upon examples from Mt Arthur Coal and other operations in Australia and South America, Ian explored the technologies and costs associated with operating in a range of physical and social settings.

Question time saw some interesting issues being raised.

The willingness to develop best practice mine design and operating practices can enable large-scale mining operations to coexist adjacent to regional communities. This is the challenge being addressed by Mt Arthur Coal.

A video of the lecture with the accompanying PowerPoint slideshow is available for viewing.

A copy of the text of the lecture is available for download.
