Inaugural UNSW / Mitsubishi Lecture

Mr Westcott discussing alternate uses of a dragline

Well over one hundred people gathered in the Scientia Building at UNSW on 20 May 2004 to hear Mr Paul Westcott deliver the inaugural UNSW/Mitsubishi Lecture.

The lecture entitled "Dragline or Truck/Shovel? Some Technical and Business Considerations" generated considerable interest as it addressed a topical issue in the planning of open cut coal mines. The lecture stressed the need to devise alternate planning strategies as well as to evaluate these in order that stakeholders can make informed decisions cognizant of the benefits as well as the risks that each strategy may hold.

It is intended to host a lecture on the topic of Mine Planning by an eminent person each year.

the lecture attracted a large contingent from the Hunter Valley
Mr Kenjiro Itadani, Managing Director of MDP, congratulates Mr Westcott

It is also planned to present the lecture some time in the near future in Central Queensland. If you are interested in attending, please contact Prof Jim Galvin to ensure you are kept informed of the date and venue.

If you missed the lecture a copy of the lecture and lecture reference material is available. If you would like to discuss any of the concepts or issues raised in the lecture, please contact Mr Westcott at MineConsult Pty Ltd.
