Bruce Hebblewhite addressed students and staff in the School on latest developments including the recent announcements regarding the financial support given by Mitsubishi ($500,000) and by Xstrata Coal ($130,000) as well as the establishment of Minerals Education Australia (MEA) with the support of the Minerals Council of Australia all in an effort to improve the quality of mining education.
After the meeting,
a student & staff
footy match was held.
Congratulations
to the Year 4 team in winning the competition.
During and after
the footy, time was spent socialising around
the BBQ.
All teams are eager for a re-match in the near future as the competition was marred by an alleged excess of players. After the blast from the full time whistle and having just thrashed the Year 4 team, an appeal was lodged against the Year 1 team for having too many players on the field. The appeal was upheld and the Year 1 team disqualified. Both players and spectators were shocked at the poor sportspersonship with one commenting "those guys would pull any stunt just to win." A lecturer was also heard to comment that this would be an interesting case-study on ethical behaviour and people management in the Mine Management course.
