KCMI as part of the UNSW Mining Research Centre offers competitive and innovative special training, education and consultancy services in technical, management and policy programs, meeting the continuing education needs of mining industry professionals and organisations particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
These services include:

- short courses
- practical and laboratory instruction
- mine visits
- work experience and placements
as well as educational, technical and management consultancies and the organization of presentations, seminars, conferences and study tours.
Through its extensive networks, consortia, joint ventures and institutional link programs can be organized. Mining Engineering and Geology student recruitment is also promoted.
The KCMI works with national and international development organizations such as the Australian Agency for International Development AusAID, the International Development Program of Australian Universities and Colleges IDP, CSIRO International, UNDP,SOPAC, PECC and the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
Services have also been provided to offshore Australian mining companies and governments, organizations and institutes.
