Assessment - Late Submissions
Late submissions
Full marks for an assignment are only possible when an assignment is received by the due date.
In fairness to those
students who do meet the assignment due date and time, the following
deductions will apply to submissions made after
this time.
- Where material is submitted after the
deadline but within seven (7) days of the due date then
the final
mark
for that assignment will be reduced by fifteen (15) percentile
points. For example if an assignment, which was submitted
on the day
following the deadline, would have been awarded a mark
of 85% then following late submission deduction, the final
adjusted mark would be 70%.
- Where material is submitted more than
seven (7) days but less than fourteen (14) days after the
deadline then the final mark will be reduced by thirty
(30) percentile points. For example if an assignment, which
was submitted 8 days
following the deadline, would have been awarded a mark
of 80% then following late submission deduction, the final
adjusted mark would be 50%.
- Assignments submitted more than 14 days
after the due date or after the return of marked submissions
to students will not be marked but will be retained and
held for consideration by the School Examination Committee
after the final examinations.
Whenever
reference is made in this Policy to days it means calendar
days, that is normal business days as well as days on weekends
and public holidays.
If a student is unable to
submit an assignment on the due date due to other commitments
then
it is recommended the student submit on a day earlier to the
due date to avoid late submission deductions. Early submissions
are always welcomed.
Late submission: special consideration
In general students are responsible
to manage their time and ensure that sufficient time is allocated
between their university studies and other activities. Students
need to apportion sufficient time to satisfactorily complete
the many and varied requirements of courses in the program.
Nevertheless unforeseen and
exceptional circumstances can sometimes arise that may prevent
a student from
submitting
an assignment by the due date.
If such foreseen and exceptional
circumstances do arise then the student may request consideration.
This request must be made in writing, verbal requests will
not be considered. The request must be submitted to the
Course Convener/Lecture no later than seven
(7) days
after the due date. The request must clearly state the reasons,
issues and/or factors for
the
late
submission
and attach all appropriate documentation,
for example a medical certificate.
When giving consideration
to the student's request the Course Convener will note the
nature of the circumstances, the date the request was made
and
the
length
of time that was provided for the student to complete the assignment.
