Students try out their safety clothing

The first year students in the mining program at UNSW are preparing to visit their underground mine, Beltana Colliery in the Hunter Valley.

The mine utilises longwall mining and is currently the most productive underground coal mine in Australia and in the top 10 of mines in the world.

The following organisations assisted in providing the safety equipment for each of the students:

  • Overalls with embroidered names: Xstrata Coal
  • Safety boots: Illawarra Collieries Division, BHP Billiton
  • Hard hat and belt: Anglo Coal
  • Safety glasses: Coal & Allied
  • Reflective vest: Centennial Coal
  • Kit bag: Tamrock
