A site visit to the Cross-City Tunnel Project was recently undertaken by students in Year 3.

The tunnel project is a major infrastructure development that will allow vehicles to travel under the Sydney CBD between its eastern and western fringes. The development will form an important part in the link between the Western Distributor, Eastern Distributor and Sydney Harbour Tunnel.

The students saw various aspects of the modern and well managed project from the roadheader machine that cuts the rock, to the ground support systems, material handling, ventilation and water treatment facilities.

The guide during the visit was the shift engineer who had only just completed the mining program last year. Luke is not alone at the site as six other recent mining engineering graduates are also employed in various roles on the project.
