The Davids have it - milestones in award of postgraduate degrees

New and old - Doctors and Professors of Mining Engineering

At the October 2003 Graduation Ceremony, a number of milestones were achieved particularly with the award of several postgraduate research degrees including two PhDs to "students" in the School of Mining Engineering at UNSW.

Staff welcomed the new graduands together with Mr Bob Cameron, Director of Centennial Coal (3rd from right), who gave the Occasional Address to those assembled at the graduation ceremony.

The Sainsbury family had a double act with Dr David Sainsbury being awarded a PhD while wife Bre-Anne Sainsbury was awarded a Masters of Engineering degree to mark completion of her studies. David's thesis was on a topic entitled "An investigation of the geomechanical criteria for safe and efficient crown pillar recovery beneath cemented backfill."

David and Bre-Anne are currently working in the USA.
